L.O. Can I  understand what makes a happy home?

We are going to be exploring our home life and  what makes for a happy home.

I (Miss Curzon) live at home with my baby daughter.    She makes me happy because she is always smiling and laughing and she helps cheer me up when I am having a bad day!  She makes me laugh a lot too with her funny personality.  She also makes me proud when she learns something new.

Lots of us will have different people who live in our homes and it might not be the same as our classmates but that's part of what makes us special and unique.

Task 1
Complete the 'Happy Home' activity.    You need to write words that make a happy home.  For example, label all the things you need to survive and be happy at home (food, drink, bed, warmth, care, love, be looked after, clothes).    Every child has the right to all of these things and it's not the materialistic things like toys and devices that are important.

Task 2
Answer the questions below.
1. Why are people in our homes important and what do they do for us?
2. What would happen if they stopped doing those things?
3. How would you feel?

Reflection
It is important that we appreciate who we have at home, are kind to people at home and respect people at home just like we do in school with our friends.

L.O. Can I recognise what paragraphs are?

Let's retell the story of Stone Age Boy using the story mountain.
Picture

What do you know about paragraphs?
Have you heard the word before?
What do you think it means?

Paragraphs are used as a way of making something easier to read, grouping sentences together based on what they are about. Paragraphs are usually (but not always!) 3/4 sentences. We skip a line to show when a new paragraph begins. We organise paragraphs around the story mountain. So 1 paragraph for the opening, 1 for the build-up, 1 for the dilemma and so on.

You need to retell each part of the story,  summing-up what happens in each part of the story.
What happens for the:

Opening-  Stone Age Boy was walking in the woods. He tripped and found himself falling down. Stone Age Boy woke up in a cave, in a place that was unfamiliar. He was lost.

Build up- Stone Age boy stumbled across a girl called Om. Om introduced Stone Age boy to her family and showed him life during the Stone Age.

Dilemma-     Om introduced Stone Age Boy to the cave, revisiting the cave paintings.   Stone Age Boy saw something  moving in the  darkness. It was a big, furious cave bear. The ground gave way  and Stone Age Boy found himself falling down.

Resolution-Stone Age Boy woke up  in the cave and couldn't find Om anywhere. He stumbled back home to his parents  who  thought he had dreamt  everything.

Closing-  Stone Age Boy never forgot his experience and grew up to be an archeologist.  Was it a dream? Maybe, maybe not.

How can we use this information to write in paragraphs?
Each stage of the story could be a new paragraph.

Can you continue writing the story using the : Opening, build-up, dilemma, resolution and closing which I have shown you above.

Can you re-write the story  of Stone Age Boy in paragraphs?

Yesterday, you predicted what you think ''Bills New Frock' by Anne Fine is about.  You also had to clarify any words you were unsure of.

Today, we are going to focus on the questioning and summarising parts of our reciprocal reading.

Questioning

1.   What was Bill's cat called? (retrieval)
2.   How does Bill feel when Mean Malcolm whistles at him? (inference)

Can you write one of your own questions?

Summarising
Can you write a short summary of what you have read?  Remember, a summary is just the main points and should only be 3-4 sentences long.
