Our history curriculum is designed to enable children to grasp a solid understanding of chronology, world history and the use of evidence. They do this by studying a range of people and events from the past. Historical enquiries enable pupils to develop their disciplinary knowledge to become good historians.
The essential knowledge children are expected to learn is identified and built upon over time, so that children build schema and connect facts and information across and within their units of study. Our units of study go beyond national curriculum expectations, by incorporating a strong focus on Manchester. In some year groups, children learn about how events from the past had an impact on the city and people of Manchester: For example, World War I and World War II in KS2.
