History
​Curriculum Overview 
 Our history curriculum is designed to enable children to grasp a solid understanding of chronology, world history and the use of evidence. They do this by studying a range of people and events from the past. Each unit of work provides children with the opportunity to carry out a historical enquiry, in order to truly develop their skills as a historian.

Our history curriculum is built around five Big Ideas: Chronology, comparison, significant, cause and consequence and the use of evidence. These concepts run through and across year groups, ensuring children are able to build knowledge over time. In this way, our chosen units act as vehicles for these concepts. Objectives which have a repeated theme   CONNECT    prior learning with new learning and it is through our Connect Objectives that children are able to make links between the information they learn in order to build knowledge.

Our units of study go beyond national curriculum expectations, by incorporating a strong focus on Manchester. In each year group, children learn about something from the past which had an impact on the city of Manchester: personal history and a significant person in KS1 and the Romans, Victorians, World War I and World War II in KS2. We believe children benefit from exploring the history around them to further develop their sense of identity and connectedness to the past. 

​We are excited to be working towards the Historical Associations Quality Mark for Primary History!
