On Thursday 17th January 3L visited Manchester Museum as part of an exciting project being held by Manchester Museum and SEERIH.
The children went behind the scenes to discover the hidden gems of the Entomology department and the Herbarium. There were 250 Million species kept preserved. We got hands on with working with beetles and butterfly’s. We had to group, classify and identify how many different types there were. We finally looked at giant butterfly’s and the biggest and smallest beetles!!! The second half of our day involved working with the team from the Herbarium department. There were over 750,000 plants stored in boxes. During the activity we had to pattern seek to try and match plants to description cards. We looked at shape of leaves, flower types, petals, stems etc. Can you try and guess which scientific enquiry types were used? Comments are closed.
