Today, children in 5C took part in ‘International Mother Language Day’. They celebrated the day by carrying out presentations showcasing the language that they speak at home. Topics presented by the children included counting, greetings, food and words for days/months.

Our school science ambassadors joined with Crab Lane and met Kevin Murphy a chemist who invented the child flu vaccine that you squirt up your nose.
We found out about all the jobs that are involved in making a medicine. We found out the school subjects you need to study involved in creating medicine. We also found out about the disciplinary knowledge that is needed. We decided among many that that you needed to be able to observe, compare, test, check. analyse and work collaboratively. We took part in challenges like a chemist would that involved observing the differences in protein molecule patterns in a healthy person and a person that is ill. We also used results of a test to find a medicine by identifying molecule patterns. Our science ambassadors said they were interested in being chemists, biologists and physicists to find new medicines and to explore how to stop climate change. We learnt about Sandeep a biologist who began his science journey by being curious about the world and wanting to discover something that no one else had. We hope to have more contact with real scientists in the future! A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came along and supported our Book Fair. Our takings were just over £900 which gives us £450 to spend on new books for our school library.
