Literacy Today I am going to set you a listening challenge. Click on the link and listen to the different bird sounds. Have you heard any of these birds whilst you have been outside? What do they sound like? Are they squeaky, sharp, shrill? Can you copy the sounds? Keep looking and listening whilst outside and see if you can spot any of the birds. If you manage to see any, can you send a picture to your teacher? If you cannot go outside, listen to this story on You tube called: Hooray for birds. Maths Today we will be working on counting. Song 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 then I let it go again. Why did you let it go? Because he bit my finger so. Which finger did he bite? This little finger on the right. This week’s challenge will strengthen your vocabulary, attention and listening skills as well as developing your auditory (listening) memory. Shopping Game You will need the following items to play the game.
How to play Ask your grown up to set the items out on a table. Your grown is going to ask you to buy some items from the shop. They will start by asking you to go and buy 2 items. Next time you go shopping your grown up will ask you to buy 3 items, then 4 items and 5 items. Remember to put your shopping in your bag. Before you take your shopping out, tell your grown up what you have bought. Examples- I need an apple and some crisp (2 items). I need a doll,, toothpaste and biscuits (3 items). I need a carrot, teddy , banana and some soap (4 items). I need a ball, book, an apple, toothbrush and crisp (5 items). Top tips

So lets try some of these over the Easter week. 1. Make a paper aeroplane and see how far it will fly, keep trying to see if you can get it fly the further each time. 2. Keep a balloon in the air. How many times can you hit the balloon to keep it up? 3. Make a plane on string and get it to move across a large space. 4. Blow some bubbles and try to pop more each time but you can only use one finger. Star of the Week This week Mrs Subachus has picked Saleh for star of the week . You will need a empty bottles with lids and small items to fill the bottle (rice, pasta, seeds, gravel), an empty glass bottle, water, plastic straws and scissors. Literacy - Easter activity Today’s task is to make a Spring/Easter jar. If you are able to, can you go outside and find things to put in it? Twigs or fallen petals from flowers, grass etc. This is one that I have started. I am going to have lots of conversations with my family about the things that we collected. Can you do the same? What is your favourite? Why? How many different things did you find? Where did you go? Email us your pictures, you could be Star of the Week! Maths Challenge Today we are going to look at what you do during the day and when you do it. Can you think of what you do first in the morning? What do you do after that? What comes next? Do we eat our tea in the morning? Do we put on our pyjamas in the morning? Do we eat our breakfast at night? Today I’d like you to get your mum, dad or sibling to help you fold a piece of paper into 4 sections. Then I would like you draw what you do first, next, after that and the final thing you do? Literacy game Today’s task is the Hot and Cold game. For this game you will need to choose something that you can hide, for example a remote control. A family member hides the remote control, the rest of the family have to find it, asking questions as they move around the room trying to find the item. Whoever has hidden the item gives the rest of the family clues, so if you ask “is the remote control near the television?” whoever is on can say “hot” if it’s true or “cold” if they are incorrect. Have fun!!! Maths activity Ring ring, ring, ring Today we are going to make our own mobile phones. I am using an old cardboard box and cutting out a rectangle shaped phone. You can trace around one if you like. I then drew circles for my buttons Have a look at my mobile phone. The numerals are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and a 0 There is also a * and a #. Lastly there is a green mobile phone icon. How many circle buttons have you drawn? Challenge: Try and learn the mobile number of someone that you live with. How many numerals are there in a mobile number? Hello everyone! This week we have 2 challenges. The first challenge will strengthen your attention and listening skills as well as developing your understanding of action words (verbs). Dance and Freeze You need to dance when the music’s on and freeze when it stops. It’s as simple as that. Top tips 1. Watch the video so you know what to do. 2. Make sure there are no obstacles in your way. 3. Follow the animal characters instructions. 4. Remember that ‘freeze’ means ‘stop’ The second challenge has a choice of two games. The ‘Teddy Game’ or the ‘Alien Game’. The ‘Alien Game’ will require a grown up to print off the resources. These game will help you learn to name things and put them into groups. These are important skills for building vocabulary.. Teddy Game (Family Game) You will need 5 teddies The teddies like to collect things. Can you help them? The first teddy likes to collect toy animals. The second teddy likes to collect food. The third teddy likes to collect clothes. The fourth teddy likes to collect kitchen utensils. The fifth teddy likes to collect flowers. When you have finished try to think of other things that might be the same E.g.; A banana and lemon are yellow. So we have a couple of challenges for today and this weekend. 1. Dress up in fancy dress or someone else's clothes and put on a show. 2. Every hour (learning o'clock) have a karaoke and all sing a song. 3. Make some playdough and have a Dough Disco. Look below for a special message from your teacher. Also, Mrs Kendall would like to know why the penguins stick their wings (flippers) out when they walk. Can you find out why and comment on the blog? Today's name challenge for literacy Nursery, today’s task is to think about your name. Can you find items in your house that start with the sound at the start of your name? So my name is Mrs Subachus, I can find scissors, soap, salt and sauce. What can you find? Counting challenge Count to 10 Counting on. Start at 2 stop at 8 Start at 3 stop at 9 Start at 4 stop at 10 Can you count backwards? 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 You should practice counting forwards and backwards every day. You can use your fingers to help you. Why don’t you try and make numeral cards to 5. You can then practise putting them in order from 1 to 5. Have a look at mine. What you’ll need: A box Scissors Pen/pencil I’ve used an old lasagne box. Cut them out into rectangles. You may need to ask for help here. Look at my box. Can you notice any numerals? What numerals do you recognise? Once you’ve learnt how to order from 1-5, you can keep adding the next numeral until you reach 10! Hmmmm. What comes after 5? Happy Wednesday everyone, did you know today is the start of a new month? Today is Wednesday 1st April and it is April fool's day, so today there is no work. Just kidding! You will need a bag of colourful sweets like Skittles, M&M's or Smarties, also a deep saucer/plate, two cups of water (warm and cold). There will be a worksheet available on his site for you to try to complete with a grown up. Literacy challenge Yesterday we asked you to think about your favourite book and see if you could think of some rhyming words. Today can you draw a character from your favourite book? Can you tell an adult what sound the character starts with? For example my favourite book is Shark in the Park, I could draw Timothy Pope. Timothy’s name starts with the sound “t,t,t,t” Can you think of any other words that start with that sound? I can think of “t, television, telephone, ticket, tea.” Have a look around your house if you can’t think of anything. If you want to listen to Shark in the Park again and try some different activities follow the link and it will take you to some more things to try. Maths pattern challenge Today we are going to make different patterns - why don't we start it with a dance. Example: Head, Toes, head, toes, head, toes Nursery, can you make one with two different parts of your body? Now let’s try one with your 2 favourite colours Example: Green, red, green, red, green, red,? Can you try and draw it? Can you try and make a pattern using items in your house? I have made one using potatoes and onions and forks and spoons. See if you can have a go. See if you can find any patterns that already exist?
